Chris Harder talks about Black Friday
Chris Harder talks about Black Friday Choose your language Thursday, Jan 19, 2012 Home > Poker Rules > Articles > Chris Harder talks about Black Friday by Tuesday,16 Aug 2011 Chris Harder is fast becoming a living poker legend with over $4 million in winnings There are tens of thousands of people all around the world who take their seats at the felt and play poker in the hope of becoming one of them, one of the elite few who can read the cards and the people holding them to ensure success at 99% of the poker games they sit down to play. The truth is that the vast majority of people are going to be sorely disappointed. Some people can do it and everyone else is giving them their money. This is a fundamental truth that Christian Harder has never had to learn. Christian is most definitely one of them Harder was winning at poker from the moment he first sat down to play. He has demonstrated his prowess both online and at live games and can make money regardless of whether he is playing in a cash game or a tournament and his online earnings are estimated at over $2.5 million, while his live tournament pay outs stand at over $1.8 million. He is fortunate to be a master of both the online and the live game as many online professionals have seen their source of income dry up since the April 15th US government crackdown on online poker that has come to be known as Black Friday. He knows this himself saying that I was in shock. I guess I kind of expected it to come in the future but for it to happen so quickly and so all of a sudden. Things literally unravelled in a matter of hours. It was quite a shock because there was no warning, he said. This young poker pro first found himself playing the game while at Salisbury University near where he grew up in Maryland. From there he just went from strength to strength. After taking on his buddies and winning in smaller games he decided to try his luck online and found that he had a talent for the game. The Black Friday crackdown came as a shock to all in the industry and Harder didnt see it coming I definitely feel bad for kids like that who have no experience and probably have most of their money tied up. It doubly hurts. Luckily I enjoy live poker and Ive played a lot of it. Ive almost been playing all live poker in the last six months anywaysI definitely feel bad for kids like that who have no experience and probably have most of their money tied up. It doubly hurts.

Big name talent prepares for poker awards
by Tuesday,6 Sep 2011 The British Poker Awards are an excellent showcase for the massive talent that Britain has produced The British Poker Awards are getting closer and closer and the jury is still out as to which players are most likely to win. With a sterling performance from UK players at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2011 it is likely that there are going to be some new names mixed in with the old favourites. Players such as Jake Cody had a massive WSOP, winning over $800,000 for taking the winners bracelet in the $25,000 heads up no limit hold em event. He has the nomination for Best Tournament Player and Best Online Player. These are going to be difficult to win however as there are some massive poker names nominated alongside him in the form of Sam Trickett and Roberto Romanello for the title of Best tournament Player. Trickett first shot to poker fame during the 2010 WSOP where he cashed in no less than 6 separate events and then went on to storm his way through Asia, first at the Aussie millions and then in China when he won a reputed one and a half million dollars from high stakes cash games alone. More recently he just made 11th place at the Epic Poker Leagues (EPL) inaugural tournament for a prize of just under $50,000. Roberto Romanello is making a name for himself on the European Poker circuit. He won the World Poker Tour (WPT) Bratislava event earlier this year for a prize of $197,000 and the EPT Prague last year for a prize of $846,000. Managing to maintain the momentum, Trickett has been nominated in three categories this year. As well as the nomination for best Best Tournament Player he has the nominations for Best Cash Player and Best Social Media User. The Best cash Player is a massive title to win, other nominees include Roland de Wolfe and Richard Ashby. De Wolfe is a well known celebrity after having been playing on televisions Late Night Poker and at one point was the UKs highest earning poker player. He is also the first player ever to win both WPT and EPT events which he did in 2006. Ashby holds a WSOP winners bracelet for taking the seven card stud event in 2010, he also won the Aussie millions. The field of British poker pros is really an ever expanding pool of some really big names and it seems that there are always new players coming along to make it look easy.

CelebPoker Package Winner Achieves Ambition
CelebPoker Package Winner UK CelebPoker player Matthew Tranter took the next step in his poker career by winning a package to the Irish Winter Festival that took place from October 29th 31st, 2011. As a loyal player of CelebPoker, Matt will be aiming for more package wins in our online satellites for land based poker tournaments. We caught up with himto find out a bit more. What do you do (occupation, studies, hobbies etc?)I have been making a living by playing poker for the last couple of years. Prior to this I studied software development. I greatly enjoy skiing, socializing, reading and a wide variety of music; primarily drum & bass and dubstep which I find very helpful as a driving force during long poker sessions. How long have you been playing poker and how did you start?I have been playing poker for 5 years. Poker first caught my attention when some of the better players started to move over from the real time strategy game “Starcraft” that I was playing competitively at the time, they all showed great results and this opened my mind to the advantage of investing my time and dedication into a more profitable venture. Televised poker also added to the appeal to get involved in this exciting game; seeing the pros at the time playing high stakes tournaments for millions of dollars helped fuel my desire to learn and hopefully one day compete with and defeat these great players. Did you use any special strategy to win the tournament?I vary my play style based on the players on my tables at the time. On some tables it is advantageous to play tight (only the best hands) and some loose (many hands), however either way I will try to play those hands aggressively making my opponents make tough decisions whilst giving me information about the strength of their hands. In this tournament I was able to play a loose aggressive style (this means i was playing a lot of hands whilst betting/raising/re-raising rather than calling) and had a very large stack going into the final table.A tight player will make it into the money positions in a tournament more than a loose player, however a loose player will go on the win much bigger prizes more often when they do make the money. Any key moments you remember from tournament? The final table is the most important part of the tournament, with the pay increasing steeply with each extra position gained; here outplaying the other players really matters.I was lucky to have a 2 – 1 chip lead on 2nd place going in to the FT and couldn’t really ask for a better start. The other players were all playing tight against me; trying to avoid me at all costs unless they had a monster hand. This is always a good thing as with nobody trying to contest pots with me I was effectively being given permission to constantly steal chips from the other players allowing me to extend my chip lead significantly… a lot of the pots i won on the FT could have gone to the other player had they tried to play back at me. What do you plan to do with the prize money?I plan to use a lot of the prize money to work my way into a number of large live events. I will be playing the Irish Winter Festival tournament in October and hope that this will be the first of many over the next couple of years. It has been an ambition of mine to expand in to the live poker scene for quite some time now and huge prizes are ready for the taking.I will also re-invest a lot of the money on the Celeb Poker cash/tournament tables in order to continue progressing up through the stakes striving to improve by playing better players and to earn bigger pay days. Advice to other players? You might have to play countless tournaments in order to take a big finish or it could happen on your first one. The important thing is to not let this high level variance affect your play, if you’re not happy with your results so far it does not necessarily mean you’re a bad player as luck is certainly a large factor in poker. Keep a clear head, always be trying to improve your game (there are many resources out there for an aspiring poker player to learn from), put in the hands and the results will follow.

Affiliates are going crazy wondering about their money
by Tuesday,27 Sep 2011 The poker affiliate payments site rakeupdate.com has been defaulting on payments sending ripples though out the industry Just as the Full Tilt Poker scandal seems to finally be wrapping up there is yet another one around the corner. Professional poker players around the world have been using the services of rakeupdate.com for some time now only to find that the firm have been unapproachable for the past month. Despite repeated efforts to contact them players havent managed to get a response from the firm. It has been six weeks since the companys network provider, Elite Affiliate Software stopped providing services to the firm due to non-payment of their funds. There is more than $1 million owed to clients and it doesnt look like they are going to see their money any time soon.Unlike with Full Tilt Poker it looks like personal problems between the owners of the company have led to its downfall. There was a power struggle in the company as to who was ultimately in charge between the two biggest personalities involved, Mike Haid and Daniel Persson, it was Persson who who ultimately won with Haid and several other key employees walking away from the firm. This was a year ago and the service offered by the sites run by the firm immediately suffered. Players are said to have lost massive amounts of money since the firm stopped responding to players requests. In an interesting angle on the events of Black Friday that poker players dont usually hear about, the people at Rake Update also suffered massive problems owing to the fact that the big payment processors pulled out of the United States, they were particularly hard hit when Moneybookers and Neteller walked away from the market. When that happened they had to rely exclusively on gaming firms that were operating in contrast to US gaming laws including almost exclusively Full Tilt Poker. When the CEREUS Network and Full Tilt were taken down by the Department of Justice (DoJ) there were no more funds coming into rakeupdate.com and yet they were still paying out funds to customers. It was inevitable that they were going to implode the question was only the timing, of course none of this was known until later. The effects of this problem are far reaching indeed, although not on the scale as with Full Tilt Poker the ripples have still been sent throughout the industry.

Soulier Leads Epic Poker League Main Event Final Table
The Epic Poker League’s second main event since its inception is down to the final table at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. As the four players remaining head to the dinner break, it is Fabrice Soulier who is currently the chip leader with just under two million in chips.Soulier is joined at the dinner break by David Paul Steicke, Mike McDonald, and Erik Seidel. The latter is the fan favorite, but that does not mean the other three players are not receiving support from the fans that are in attendance and watching the main event final table live. The final day of competition has been filled with ups and down for many of the eight players that began the day at the final table. While all of the players were guaranteed to cash at the event, the prestige and the big money stood at the top, where the winner will take home over $700,000 in prize money. The first player to bow out of the final table was Dutch Boyd. The popular player finished the tournament in eighth place, winning $57,530. Sean Getzweiller was the next to go, picking up $69,040 in the process. Isaac Baron finished in sixth place, gaining a cash prize of $92,050, and Nam Thien Le was the last player to be ousted, taking home $126,570 for his fifth place finish.Of the players remaining, Soulier is in the best position with his chip stack. Steicke is currently in second position, with 1,577,000. McDonald has 684,000, and Seidel is close behind, holding 665,000. None of the players have made much of a move in the current level of play, as the players have slowed down the action at the table leading into the dinner break. The Epic Poker League was born out of the idea that the top professional poker players in the world needed a league to call their own. The first main event that was held had over 100 players entered, and the tally has fallen off in event number two. Less than 100 players entered the tournament at the Palms over the past week, but organizers still consider the event to be a success, as the league is only now growing in popularity in its early stages of existence.
